End of an Era

So after promising that updates would be coming out a bit more frequently, it has been ages since my last update 🤦 What can I say?! My boasts about finally having got my sh*t together, were, (in hindsight), a little optimistic!!! In my defense, we have had more bank holidays than you could shake a stick at lately and we've hosted an unseemly amount of events... Pictures of which I will share with you shortly!

We have some rather sad news to share. Our fearless leader, Crow manager and fierce friend, Rhiannon, is leaving 😭

Rhi has been with us from the beginning, when the Crooked Crow Bar was no more than a drunken concept. We are hugely grateful for all of the dedication, talent & hard graft that she has given to creating and running our epic little venue and we are sure whatever her next chapter brings, she will absolutely smash it!

It goes without saying that Rhi will always be part of our Crow family and she has assured us she will still be making a regular appearance on both sides of the bar!!!!

May has been a strange month. Usually May sparks some excitement by bringing a bit of Spring sunshine and a couple of bank holidays, but this year the weather was grizzly and there were so many back-to-back bank holidays it kind of sucked the fun out of it!!!

We weren't quite as busy as usual, possibly due to people going on holiday or celebrating the coronation or Eurovision at home, or maybe people were wary of spanking the monthly budget on too many bank holiday outings!

The whole town reported the same: footfall was down.

That said, we still managed to have some absolute blinders, from our Blockbuster Film Club screening of Event Horizon, our Big Fat Quiz of The Crow, the Eco Social, the launch of our monthly Classic Album Sundays (with Gazza Records), our Music & Photography Exhibition (with AAH IMAGES + Kings Division), our weekly BYO Vinyl, and awesome gigs from The Atomics, Bottle Kids, Let There B/DC, Sonic Vultures, El Bronson, Still Remains UK, Motorpace & Tiptoe Apollo.

But the sunshine has finally made an appearance over the last few days, and after a rare, full working week, the lure of another bank holiday (& payday!) is actually, (dare I say it), quite exciting!!! Luckily, we still have plenty more fantastic events in the pipeline this month! Thursday is the close of our Exhibition week, with live music from Kings Division, our B4WD sessions return this Friday with 3 awesome, original bands, we've a 80s/90s/00s Disco on Saturday and Sunday we have Ska from the Bar (with DJ Double Deckers)...

Next Wednesday sees the return of our Castle Comedy Night:

A classic mixed bill of comedy featuring TV names and rising stars.

Hosted by Paul Revill, this month's show features:

PAUL McCAFFREY starred on Live At The Apollo and was also the star of the UK version of Impractical Jokers alongside Roisin Conaty and Joel Dommett. He has appeared on Russell Howard’s Good News and Stand Up Central on Comedy Central. In the last 12 months he has performed to thousands of people, supporting Kevin Bishop on his UK tour. He is one of the most sought-after headline acts in the country in his own right.

ADAM VINCENT - an Australian who has made Bedford his home! His career in the UK has gone from strength to strength and he is a main writer on the hugely successful Last Leg on Channel 4.

Tickets are available on our website: https://www.crookedcrowbar.com/

COMING UP:

We have fantastic live music from THE BEAULOCKS & THE ZEROES...

And we are launching a new monthly event, the 1st Sunday of each month, Winner Stays On. This is a retro gaming tournament for grown ups (beer and foul language are a likely feature)!! We are kicking off with Street Fighter II - so if you fancy kicking some old skool arse, or simply grabbing a beer and screaming "Finish him" at the appropriate moment, come and join us! Sunday 4th June 12-4pm, free entry, over 16s only.
