Quick... Mariah is Defrosting!!!

As a regular theme in my blog posts, again, I am in shock that it is mid November already! Mariah is defrosting as I type, the TV is pumping out the latest Crimbo ad's with festive carotts and Venus Fly Traps and the supermarkets are busy stacking chocolate oranges next to the array of luxurious 'Christmas' foods that go out of date on the 10th December! Of course, this all feels completely alien to me, because, 'Christmas' is one of the few 'C' words I seldom use pre-December! Getting excited about an annual event that is 5 weeks away just seems forced... Like Mr. Hallmark is telling me that if I don't start panic buying jacobs crackers and snowman-shaped crumpets then my Christmas will be a disaster. I know that makes me sound like a complete Grinch! I genuinely love Christmas, just not in bloody November!!! Besides, decorating a tree, cooking a roast and getting sh** faced are all things I'm pretty good at... so I'll continue to embrace my Slack-Alice, last-minute mantra that has served me well thus far, thankyou very much Mr. H!

I was reading through my update from last December (which I've uploaded below) - It is a very poetic and inciteful account of Christmas in Customer Service (!) and a good reminder that this is, almost definitely, the calm before the storm!!!

Don't panic, my refusal to get festive yet doesn't mean we haven't got a monsterously packed schedule of fantastic events lined up at The Crow! But before we move on to tell you about all the goodies we have coming up, a quick recap of some of the absolute belters we have had over the last couple of weeks: We hosted a special, interactive screening of Final Destination 3 at our Blockbuster Film Club, had a fantastic Ska From The Bar session, our Murder Mystery night returned, had a great fun Big Fat Quiz of The Crow, and of course, EPIC live music from Nerdvana, Audionasties, The Corsairs, Sam Draisey, Fraser Morgan & The Great Catastrophe's, Bleeding Hearts and V8!! A huge THANKYOU to everyone involved and, of course, thanks to all of you who came down to join us!

On the subject of November...

Crow Crew Legend, Spencer is taking part in Movember this year. Please feel free to poke fun at his facial growth (he's the lad behind the bar that currently looks like Goose from Top Gun). But also, please donate if you can, it's a fantastic cause.

You can donate/read Spencers story by clicking the MAGNUM P.I button above.

Due to popular demand we have decided next week to run another Big Fat Film Quiz and another Murder Mystery Night! So if you need an excuse to sample our hot spiced cider or boozy hot chocolates (both of which will be back on the menu from next week), you've plenty to choose from!

And after my many moans about the festive season, it's only befitting I tell you all about our Christmas appeal! I know, I'm a hypocrite, but this is a really lovely idea that was big success last year and (trust me), it's enough to make even the biggest Grinch feel all warm and fuzzy!

Fancy doing something wonderful this Christmas? Why not come and take part in our GIVING TREE.

How it works:

1. Pop into The Crooked Crow Bar and choose a tree-shaped gift tag from our wall

2. Check the back of the tag and see the name and age of a child and the gift they have requested

3. Purchase that gift and attach the tree tag (please don't wrap).

4. Bring the gift to the Crow and hand to bar staff for safekeeping

5. We will deliver to KidsOut when they call in collections

6. Kids Out ensure the gifts get to the children for Christmas

The recipients are children in the UK who have escaped domestic violence, being forced to flee their homes quickly and leave all possessions behind, as well as children who are living in the highest areas of deprivation in the country and are living with a disability, serious illness or life-limiting conditions.
