Leaving February With a Bang!!!

With the appearance of Dudley, Eunice, Franklin and now Gladys, much of the last few days has felt like a scene from The Wizard of Oz! But despite the apocalyptic weather, last weekends gigs were absolutely EPIC! On Friday we hosted our Rum & Reggae Night and we were almost convinced as that day had been the worst hit by the storm, that the night might be a wash out, but you marvellous lot didn't disappoint us! We were surprisingly busy and the night was simply fantastic. We had awesome live music from Rocksteady Drop followed by DJ set from Rhoda Dakar! Everyone was dancing and the vibe was pure electric. Then Saturday daytime we had another great BYO Vinyl session and by 10pm the room was jam-packed with people dancing to yet another amazing gig from The Corsairs! So we have hope now, that as we head into March the plan to re-introduce our midweek schedule of events, is not completely daft or wildly optimistic!

SO... What have we got in store...?

We have been chatting with some other independent local businesses regarding a few more hook ups and while plans are still in their early stages, it does look very likely that over the next few weeks we will be introducing a food option at The Crooked Crow Bar, as well as being able to offer the chance for our ticket holders to win Tattoo Vouchers at a fantastic local studio and also we are in the midst of sorting out a music and art collaborative exhibition for incredible local artists. We are still working on our Escape Room (progress on which has been painfully slow due to delays caused by the pandemic), more interactive theatre and games nights, a monthly jam night and drag cabaret night and regular podcast, so hopefully these will also be launching in the next few weeks.

We have had plans to launch many of these events since we first opened, however had been scuppered by lockdowns and subsequent trading difficulties, so as you can imagine, we are SO excited that we are finally getting the opportunity to get these off the ground.

But first things first! As of the 3rd March we will be relaunching our Thursday night live music events. Thursdays are the only opportunity we have to host live music in a more chilled environment, with tables, seating and standing room... a kind of Blues-Club feel. Anyone who has attended one of our Thursday Night gigs in the past will tell you that they are absolute magic and we are really keen to get these up and running as a regular event. But, as always, we need your help. Spread the word, share our posts, cross every available digit and limb that we can make this work and (of course), come down and see us... You guys have been so amazing in your support for us since the start of our journey, we are sure by now you all know the drill!

Coming Up at The Crooked Crow Bar...

Sadly our Castle Comedy Event relaunch has been postponed until April. All ticket holders will have received an email from Castle Comedy directly and their tickets will be valid for the shows new date (at the end of May) or they can reply to the email to request a refund if preferred. We will be releasing details of the great comedians that will be joining us for the relaunch asap, so watch this space.

That does mean that this Wednesday and Thursday night we will be open as a bar only (no event). So join us for a few beers, a game of pool and (as always), great tunes & atmosphere.

Then, Sunday night...!

Jim Jones All Stars: Sunday 27th, 8pm

Tickets £15+bf adv (£20 otd)

Joined by former Jim Jones Revue members Gavin Jay (bass) and Elliot Mortimer (piano and keyboards), The Jim Jones All Stars are augmented guitarist Carlton Mounsher, singer Ali Jones, drummer Chris Ellul and the three-way sax attack of Stuart Dace, Chuchi Malapersona and Tom Hodges.

Born out of necessity, born out of wedlock and simply born to boogie, The Jim Jones All Stars are an unholy trinity of birth.

“The whole COVID/Brexit problem just made it impossible to continue with The Righteous Mind,” says Jim Jones, “but with various live offers and opportunities still coming in I had to come up with something, or else just go insane.

“Necessity, being the mother of invention, surprised us all when she delivered a healthy, heavyweight, blue-eyed amalgam of incendiary ramalama soul.”

Speaking of the new line-up, Jim Jones has a wicked glint in his eye when he says: “It’s a pleasure to have that much horn going on, as it allows me to plunge into the succulent, dark meat of the low-down, greasy, chitlin’ groove – that’s where all the flavour is! There’s a whole new planet of killer songs and I’m landing on it now and preparing to plant my freak flag. And on top of that, we’re going to be deep-frying à la carte from my entire back catalogue. This is the gig you’ve been waiting for!”

With support from the fabulous, Paul Ronney Angel!!!!
